Premium Recreation

Looking for a little more excitement? Add Premium Recreation to your event. While all recreation activities are included in every retreat package, some require minimal charges for staffing.  Event planners, please note that since some setup and orientation is necessary, all activities do require advanced scheduling with your Conference Services coordinator.

The tower offers 3 sides, each with different grades and rock placements, allowing for varied degrees of difficulty and unique climbing experiences. The wall uses auto-belay systems that are compatible with children, youth, and adults. The Climbing Tower is located north of the basketball courts and is a great option to add-on with other basic recreation activities available to guests.

Aquatic Center

Summer of 2013 was the grand opening of our newly renovated Aquatic Center! The swimming pool now has two slides, volleyball net, updated basketball hoops, and brand new shower houses! The Sunstream Aquatic Center is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, but will close for unsafe weather conditions. Iowa State law requires we have a certified lifeguard on duty while the pool is being used by our conference and retreat groups. Day events can contact the on-site office for pricing and availability: 515-275-3078

Cost: $20/hour per lifeguard

Zip Line

Sunstream's Zip Lines are a great addition to any retreat package, as well as available for day events.  Groups can choose to ride 3 or 5 lines, as they soar over the valley.  Our zip lines can be packaged together to coincide with a team building program, meaning groups can still schedule their day of adventure recreation programs without missing out on the adrenaline filled activity; all at one simple price per person.  Minimum group size of 10 is required. If you have less than 10, you can still book a Zip Line Adventure, but would need to pay for 10 people.  Riders must be at least 8 years old.  Guests must wear close-toed shoes, and tie back long hair in order to participate.  Sunstream reserves the right to refuse service or terminate the zip line adventure because of safety concerns at any time.  Sunstream requires every participant to turn in a completed waiver prior to the start of their Zip Line Adventure tour. You can download a wavier for adults (ages 18+) and a waiver for minors.

Cost:
$15/person for a 3 line tour
$20/person for a 5 line tour

Team Building

The group initiatives course is a series of low-to-the-ground challenges that focus specifically on team development through planning and problem-solving. The attempts and results in each group are creative, fun, and helpful in building group cohesiveness. Challenges are physical, but not athletic. Challenges are intellectual, but not rocket science. All challenges are team-oriented. Success or failure is not based on speed or skill, but on developing as a team. Following each challenge, staff facilitate group discussion on how the challenge relates to everyday life. The nature and focus of the group determines the direction of the discussion. Some groups benefit from direct questioning, while other groups may simply assign a letter grade to their level of communication. Whatever the form of discussion, participants leave the activity having reflected on their role in the experience.

Cost: $15/person for a two hour session
